In many parts of Vietnam, the shadow of “Trọng nam khinh nữ” (favoring men over women) still lingers, often leaving women’s contributions overlooked and their voices unheard. At Sustain Vietnam, we believe that true sustainability is impossible without gender equality. EmpowerHer was born to change this narrative. Our mission is to transform these women from “helpers” into Leaders of Heritage, restoring their confidence and granting them the financial independence they deserve.
A Story from the Shore: The Women of the Fishing Village
Imagine a mother in a remote coastal village. Her day starts at 3 AM, waiting for the boats to return. While the world admires the scenic beauty of the ocean, few see the exhaustion in her eyes as she balances heavy baskets of fish, manages a household with limited resources, and tries to preserve the traditional weaving crafts of her ancestors in the flickering light of a candle. Her struggle isn’t just with the waves; it’s with a society that often underestimates her potential.
Sustain Vietnam is stepping in to walk alongside these resilient women. We are launching a dedicated project to support The Women of the Fishing Villages, and we need you—our volunteers—to help us turn their hardship into hope.
Our Concrete Actions to Transform Their Lives:
- Vocational Excellence & Design Innovation: We provide advanced training to refine their traditional weaving skills, helping them create modern, eco-friendly products that appeal to international markets, ensuring a higher and more stable income.
- Digital Literacy & Business Workshops: We equip these women with basic business knowledge and digital tools, enabling them to manage their own small cooperatives and sell their crafts directly to supporters worldwide through e-commerce.
- A Sanctuary for Education: Sustain Vietnam is establishing community “Heritage Hubs”—safe spaces where women can gather to work, learn, and access childcare support, allowing them to focus on their personal and professional growth without fear.
